Teachers (updated 02/14/08)

LHS TEACHERS

We have been able to find eleven (11) of our former Lincoln teachers. They all remember us (our class) fondly; which seems a bit strange. We are inviting them all to our Potluck Picnic on Sunday, August 17th. It will be much easier for them to attend the Picnic and will be in a less formal setting so we all can converse more casually.

Those found are:
Mrs. Lunelle (Chapin) Flannery (89) – Journalism
Totem Weekly advisor
Mrs. Janice (Hanson) Sorensen (77) – Girls’ Advisor
the youngest on the LHS staff and was also married in 1958
Mr. Marvin Herard (79) – Art
Artist, painter, sculptor, Seattle University professor for 20 yeaes.
Mr. William Holm (83) – Art
LHS class of ’43, renowned North Coast Indian artist, UofW professor of Art History and Anthropology, gave many marvelous Indian dance performances to schools, etc.
Mr. Gilbert Koeller (85) – Business Education
30 years of teaching
Mr. Paul Lorentz (90) – Mathmatics
30 years of teaching
Mr. Joe Mahoski (80 ) – Physical Education
30 years of teaching and coachibg, at LHS from 1957 - 1981
Mr. Byng Nixon (90) – Physical Education

Mr. Egil Smedvig (85) – Band/Orchestra

Mr. Robert Wuflestad (90) – Mathmatics

We hope you all consider attending the Potluck Picnic also. You can spend some relaxed time with those that helped mold us for our future!

Decorations Displays (updated 02/08/08)

Classmates - We need your help with Displays!

The Decorations committee is in need of LHS paraphernalia and items that can be displayed at the Reunion Social. Any help is greatly appreciated. Any and all items such as programs, dance cards, pictures, newspaper articles, even interesting (short) stories, etc., would be great! But no fair cleaning out your attics and forwarding them on!!

Please send your items or ideas to:
Bev (Cook) Gettys, 13345 - 11th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98125
206-364-8412
bevgettys@msn.com

She would like your contributions by April, if at all possible.

Please make copies for the Decorations committee if appropriate. If not, indicate that you want them back and Bev will ensure they will be returned. Or you can pick them up after the Reunion that evening.

Thanks for your help making our 50 Year Reunion a huge success!

Beanery (updated 02/08/08)

THE BEANERY

The Beanery is definitely a LHS legend. Though it has been many years since it was a central part of the Lincoln culture (for some of the class anyway), is still conjures up pleasant and even humorous memories of all kinds. One of our classmates has shared one here:

“The Beanery was on 44th a half block across the street and due east of the school. There are several good memories from there including the wonderful chocolate sundaes with chocolate ice cream and trying to shoot the crushed paper cones through a hold in the window over the door. I won't mention the practice of setting the crunched ping-pong balls afire and inadvertently setting the curtains afire. No danger though......they were plastic and just melted.”

There is a large interest is keeping the legend going. Does anyone have pictures of the Beanery (either inside or outside)? We’d like to have them for our Reunion bulletin board displays.

Please send them to:
Bev (Cook) Gettys, 13345 – 11th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98125
(206) 364-8412 bevgettys@msn.com

Thank you very much for contributing to our Reunion.

LHS Stroll (updated 02/08/08)

LHS STROLL

(John Wollenweber, Stroll Chair)

It might be nice to walk down memory lane and take one more stroll around "the ol' girl"!

We are planning a LHS Stroll on Saturday, 8/16/08 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at LHS. A (requested) Box Lunch will be served at 11:45 AM with Pictures at 12:30 PM sharp on the Front Steps. It is also planned to have an opportunity to "walk the main halls" on the first floor.

For many of us who haven't been back for a very long time, this event will definetly put us in the mood for the evening's Social.

More information will be distributed with the Registration form, being sent out in late March ('08). A guide map will be provided to ensure no one gets lost.

Golf Event (updated 02/03/08)

GOLF EVENT
August 15, 2008
(John Wollenweber, Golf Chair)

The Golfing Event is planned for Friday, August 15, 2008, at the Nile Golf and Country Club. This is not a tournement but just a good old fashion golf "outing". Scores will be kept totally confidential unless someone wants to "brag".

We expect a good turnout; spouses are welcomed. Exact four-somes will be formed that day unless individuals want to arrange their own. Exact time will be determined by early July. We expect to start in the morning (at a reasonable hour) but in time to have a cool bud and/or lunch at the club house following either 9 or 18 holes! Costs at NG&CC are $27.00 (18) or $19.00 (9), with power carts at $25.00 for 2. That's only $0.22 per swing!

Further info will be made available as more information is available. Keep watching!

Picnic (updated 02/04/08)

REUNION PICNIC
August 17, 2008
(John Moffitt, Picnic Chair)

The Reunion PotLuck Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, 8/17/08, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Committee has chosen two (2) locations; 1.-Ravenna Park or 2.-Woodlawn Park with the exact location to be determined by a Seattle Parks Dept. Lottory system. The Committee will be submitting "site requests" in February and will not be notifed of "their" selection till late March. This timeframe may be after our Reunion Registration mailings. If so, exact location for the PotLuck Picnic will be forwarded to you all. A notice update in this Blog Site (probably in early April) will also provided.
Until we have a good feel for how many will be attending, "food requests" will be withheld. Food items will be requested by August 1st, though.
Both sites have Rest rooms and Handicap parking available.
All Lincoln High School teachers still living in the area will be invited to attend and share in the festivities.
A comment that has been expressed is, "isn't it going to be difficult for those comming from afar, to have a PotLuck picnic"? With all the terrific deli's in the local area (even on Sundays), this shouldn't be a problem. University Village which is very close to Ravenna Park has a great deli in the QFC. There are several deli's around Wallingford/Greenlake/Ballard/Fremont districts . too, for Woodlawn Park. We should see the best "gormet" and "gromon" picnic ever!
